I would like to share with you one of my email conversation with Dr. Seckel which occurred about 1 month ago.

As you all know Dr. Seckel is a surgeon that expert in removing dark circles under eyes. After reading

his article about different types of dark-circle under eyes, I was confused. I was not sure what category that my dark circles fall into. Was it “dark purple color of the lower eyelid skin”, “brown pigment on the lower eyelid skin”, “a hollow eye appearance” or “the tear though deformity-the true dark circles under the eyes”? Each type of dark circles has different treatments.

One day, when Dr Seckel sent an email to congratulate me on this site popularity within short time frame, I decided to take this opportunity to send him my photo to ask for his opinion about my dark circles. I was delighted when I received Dr Seckel reply within 24 hours. Here are some excerpts that Dr Seckel wrote:

If you look carefully at your eyes you can see that the dark circle is actually the naso-jugal fold or tear trough.

The telltale key is the crescent shadow and more importantly the small amount of bulge or puffiness above the shadow-notice that the puffy area is lighter than the dark circle-that is because the light is able to hit the bulging skin, but the dark circle is a shadow, the light cannot get in. The naso-jugal fold or tear trough is caused by the fact that the arcus marginalis is holding the skin down to the bone of the eye socket, whereas the puffy skin above the dark circle is free to move, bulge and create a shadow below.

In short, my dark circles fall into the 4^th category which can only be removed using laser transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

And according to Dr Seckel, currently there are no surgeons in asia (where I from) that could perform this procedure.

BaD NEWSssss!!! That’s mean if I want to remove my dark circles, I will need to go to USA?

However Dr Seckel mentioned that he did came to hospital in Bangalore (India) every year to perform dark circles procedure. Good news though for those who have dark circles and live in India.

For those who can’t meet Dr Seckel, here’s another alternative mentioned by Doctor.

It may sound bizarre but many lay people say preparation h ( a hemorrhoid ointment) will shrink the bulging skin and lessen the shadow.

I know I’ve not written any articles about “preparation h” but some do claim that it helps on reduce dark circles. But many of them claim “preparation h” works better on puffy eyes.
